English Language Teacher
- Type: Job
- Location: Shandan, Gansu Province, China
- Organisation: Shandan Bailie School
Shandan Bailie School has a unique legacy through its founder Rewi Alley, and the Bailie educational approach of 'hands and mind together' -combining academic and vocational training. Students are in the age range 17-20. The school also has a focus on community education and development, and is increasingly used as a training centre for internationally funded development projects. The school has had New Zealand teachers of English for some years now. - Closing Date: 30-Jun-2008
- Description:
The main role is teaching oral English to students. This may be the only role, however the position is adaptable to accommodate the skills of the appointee. Other roles have included building capacity in TESL resources and methodology, and assisting with NZCFS development projects delivered to local communities. Start date is about August 20, 2008. The preferred term is one academic year lasting through to end of June 2009, but a one term appointment to mid-January will also be considered. Remuneration of about $US 300 per month, plus accommodation is provided. Full travel expenses are provided for a one year appointment. For half year this is negotiated at over half expenses. Internet connection is provided. - Applicant Requirements:
Shandan is in the Hexi corridor (on the old silk road) on the edge of the Gobi desert, and experiences hot dry summers and cold dry winters. The position requires an adventurous person who will enjoy the opportunities of the location and school with its strong connection to NZ. While this is essentially a volunteer's position, the salary is more than enough to live on. - Application instructions:
Email an expression of interest and enquiries to Dave Browmwich, executive member, New Zealand China Friendship Society (NZCFS). Please include a contact telephone number. - Restrictions: A qualified teacher or graduate is strongly preferred, but others with TESL experience will be considered.
