SNV Netherlands Development Organisation is an international advisory organization that is dedicated to a society in which all people enjoy the freedom to pursue their own sustainable development. SNV contributes to this by strengthening capacity of local organizations. Our advisors offer a mix of capacity development and thematic expertise. We facilitate the participation of local organizations - such as local governments, business associations and civil society networks - in the design and implementation of national development strategies. SNV works with a diverse range of public, private and non-governmental actors. Our in-country presence allows us in addition to supporting individual clients, to contribute to - via multi stakeholder processes - system and societal changes. Together with our (international) partners, we constitute a unique world-wide local capacity development network. We strive for impact in two particular areas "Income, Employment and Production" and "Access to Basic Services". SNV is financially supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Netherland and has additional funding from international donors. SNV is present in more than 30 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Balkans and employs 1500 national and international staff. The West and Central Africa program is within SNV one of the bigger regional programs. The program covers Burkina, Mali, Niger, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Benin, Cameroon and the DRC. Angola is part of the regional program as well, but activities there will be phased out. At the end of 2006 the region employed 465 staff. SNV has a vast network in the region and more than 1000 organizations receive advisory services. With the objective of sharing and exploiting SNV's wealth of information in the region, SNV's regional office for West and Central Africa wishes to recruit a regional communications officer. - Closing Date: 23-May-2008
- Description:
The regional communications officer will be responsible for the fine-tuning and implementation of the communication strategy in the region. In a specific way, he/she will: - Manage the regional communications function; - Support the implementation of the strategy in the region together with regional, country and HO staff; - Collate and file critical organisational information at regional level in order to ensure that all managers and advisors have access to up-to-date quality information in collaboration with the KM unit; - Disseminate critical organisational information at regional level so that all managers and advisors are able to retrieve information, in collaboration with the KM unit; - Liaise with the communications team at head office, network leaders, management at the regional office as well as other regional communications officers in order to implement the communications strategy for West and Central Africa; - Set up and maintain the regional intranet site in English and French and manage the country intranets sites in the region; - Coordinate the preparation of public relation materials (calendars, annual reports, brochures, etc.) for the region and subsequent countries; - Update, maintain and manage the regional SNV website and country websites in the region; - Provide material for the corporate website and intranet and other corporate p.r. material, such as the corporate annual report; - Ensure quality control of all communication products and provide publishing support for publications in the region as needed; - Maintain a photography database for the region and develop a strategy for obtaining visual images of SNV's work in the region; - Guard and promote SNV's corporate identity guidelines; - Actively engage in making the e-portal an attractive and widely used communication and information tool inside SNV; - Advise to the Regional Director and Regional Advisor on communication and change management issues. - Applicant Requirements:
1. Education - University degree (MSc or equivalent preferred) in relevant discipline such as communication, journalism, marketing communication. - Academic level of working and thinking 2. Work experience - Five years minimum 3. Knowledge and skills - In depth communications experience - Networking - Good capacity for summary and synthesis - Able to apply and work with various communications tools, specifically E-tools (portals, website management, etc) 4. Personal attributes - Dynamic and motivated 5. Languages - Speaks and writes fluently in English and French 6. Others - Strong computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Knowledge of Publisher or other design software will be an added advantage. Women are encouraged to apply Duty station: The duty station is Ouagadougou, the Capital of Burkina Faso. Health services: Reasonable to good. Educational facilities: There are different international schooling systems in English (International School based on American system) and a French International School. Both are of good quality. There is a Dutch School for Dutch language for several hours per week. Security situation: Good Accessibility: Five times a week direct flights to and from Europe, daily via other hubs.
