Job Description Intern position: Corporate Fundraising Assistant (unpaid) Purpose of this position: To assist the corporate fundraiser in generating income from corporations through researching, writing proposals, presenting to and liaising with companies. This is a new position and offers a wide scope for those interns seeking professional development and a significant level of responsibility. The post will be supervised by the Corporate & Trust Fundraiser. Estimated duration of role: between 4 - 8 months, (starting end of May 2008) Estimated time to be volunteered: 2 days per week Hours: Core hours 10.00 - 4.00 pm (times negotiable) Major responsibilities 1. Carry out research to help with the generation of a list of companies who match up to Afghanaid and can be approached for funding. 2. To provide the Corporate Fundraiser with administrative support and assistance. 3. To assist in the development of our corporate strategy and generate ideas for corporate funding opportunities. 4. Assist with the writing of proposals for funding in coordination with the Corporate Fundraiser and UK Director. 5. To be a point of liaison with the companies we have contacted and are developing a relationship with. 6. Assist with the production of relevant publicity material to support our approaches to and partnerships with companies. 7. Give presentations in coordination with other colleagues to potential corporate partners. 8. Work with the Corporate fundraiser to research, develop and implement new fundraising products 9. Drive new business opportunities through developing new contacts and networking within corporate environment. Person Specification: Essential: - Background in business, media, development or international relations - Highly organised individual able to plan, prioritise and work to tight deadlines both individually and as part of a team. - Advanced writing skills, ability to concisely and clearly explain complex issues. - Confident speaker who is able to address different audiences and tailor their communications accordingly (must be fluent in English). - An interest in Afghanistan and Afghanaid's work. - A good knowledge of the business sector and understanding of Corporate Social Responsibility. - Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment. - Good computer skills (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, internet) - Good research skills Desirable: - Knowledge of Afghanistan - Knowledge of Pashto/Dari - Experience of working within the corporate, media or development sector - A candidate with contacts in the business/media world - Ability to work with budgets - Application instructions:
