PURPOSE To train Pacific educators to identify national education needs and implement solutions for effective skills and competency development, to enable educational components of Pacific judicial development reform agenda to be designed and conducted by educators from within PIC judiciaries. OBJECTIVE To design and deliver 1 Level 2 Educators' Course in FSM in September 2008 and 1 Level 3 Educators' Course in Brisbane in March. BACKGROUND For many years, judicial and court officers from within the Pacific have undertaken accredited training to equip them with the skills to analyse needs, develop and deliver training locally. The ability of local educators to do this work builds sustainability to any capacity building programme by enabling the region to meet its own training and development needs. DURATION Maximum 30 days between September 2008 and March 2009. ACTIVITIES - Assess and prioritising training needs - Design judicial educator training programs - Set learning objectives - Prepare materials - Deliver a sub-regional Level 2 Educators' Course in FSM in September 2008 by targeting those with the potential and commitment to drive training in their respective jurisdictions - Deliver a sub-regional Level 3 Educators Course in Brisbane in March 2009 for the last cadre of successful Level 2 graduates to conclude program driven support to qualifying judicial educators. - Evaluate the programs delivered - Provide all course materials to PJDP with a license to publish them - Provide written advice to PJDP regards a sustainable model for judicial education based in the Pacific - Applicant Requirements:
- Must be able to accredit trainers according to an Australian/New Zealand standard - Experience in designing and delivering short-term programs designed to train educators, such experience in the Pacific is an advantage; - Experience working with judiciaries in developing countries - Cross-cultural communication skills; - Relevant qualifications in education, law and related areas; - Consultative approach to curricula development; - Comprehensive materials suitable for delivery to participants from oral cultures; - Skills at appropriately contextualising activities to delivery environment including the use of appropriate locally based case studies; - Experience in developing and delivering experiential/action learning methodologies; - Experience in developing and implementing evaluation and follow-up strategies; - Report writing skills; and - A willingness to provide ongoing, remote, pro bono support to participants. - Application instructions:
