Job Summary: AKF-Afghanistan's Department of Education has undergone considerable expansion in the period 2006-7 and this process will continue in the years 2008-12. During this period AKF-A Education will be responsible for delivering programmes that closely reflect the core objectives of the National 5 Year Strategy for Afghan Education. The Professional Development Unit (PDU) exists within AKF Education Afghanistan to provide professional support in the areas of educational policy, management and leadership of educational institutions, teacher training, and teaching and learning practices in formal and non-formal education programmes. The Professional Development Advisor, as a member of the Professional Development Unit, will work closely with the Regional Training Head and the Regional Education Programme Manager in ensuring the integrity and relevance of the professional support programs to the needs of the region and the National Ministry of Education's Strategy. - Applicant Requirements:
Overall Responsibilities: - Work closely with regional education staff to develop a range of initiatives and/or strategies which contribute to whole school improvement and promote community participation in education; - Build the capacity of AKF regional staff in the areas of whole school improvement and community participation; - Promote and strengthen the existing MoE support systems for primary schools; - Prepare training materials and deliver training workshops to support AKF Education program areas; - Regularly visit program areas to support and monitor the School Community Educators' input to schools and communities; - In conjunction with Teacher Training College staff, provide technical inputs which support the implementation of the new TTC curriculum for primary school teachers including the school experience program; - Work closely with the regional training head to develop his/her skills in writing reports and other documentation, preparing training programs and manuals, and in sharing knowledge of sound educational practice; - Advocate for an equitable inclusion of women and girls as beneficiaries of AKF education programs. REQUIREMENTS : - Graduate +additional post graduate qualification in Education; - At least 10 years experience in education with proven practical experience in developing country context (preferably South/Central Asia); - Evidence of specialized skills in appropriate technical areas; - Knowledge and experience of school-based professional training and strategic planning; - Experience of collaboration with other NGOs and with Ministry of Education officials at Provincial and District level; - High level of motivation and ability to work across cultures and in isolate rural communities; - Strong communication skills in English (spoken and written) but ability to work in a multi lingual environment . A knowledge of Dari highly desirable though not essential; - Competence in usual range of basic computer programmes. - Application instructions:
