PURPOSE To promote equitable, timely and affordable responses to communities justice needs. OBJECTIVE Extend the implementation of court-annexed mediation to selected jurisdictions throughout the Pacific region. BACKGROUND The widespread support, customary underpinnings and foreseeable benefits in the enhancement of access to justice have made mediation a key activity for PJDP support. In addition to activities which assist individual jurisdictions, the Programme will support stakeholders in the development of Pacific standards for accrediting mediators. Training can then be developed that is appropriate for the context of the Pacific thereby providing the foundation and framework for broader support of mediation in the future. The successful implementation of court-annexed mediation systems in 2007-8 will assist in providing a methodology that can be shared with other PICs interested in progressing similar types of work. DURATION 10 months from 1 July 2008 to 30 April 2009 - Applicant Requirements:
COMPETENCIES - Experience in designing and implementing ADR development projects in developing countries, preferably for the Pacific (face-to-face and remotely) - Knowledge and experience in a wide range of ADR methodologies, including the ability to contextualise these methodologies in developing countries. - Experience in community based mediation in addition to court annexed mediation - Experience in developing and delivering training on mediation - High level oral, written and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to work closely and consult with stakeholders (face-to-face and remotely) - Demonstrated high level of interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to work in a crosscultural environment - Demonstrated organisation skills, and capacity to create collegial working relationships between experts and stakeholders - Relevant qualifications in law, ADR-mediation and/or related areas - Experience in developing and implementing evaluation and follow-up strategies - Report writing skills - Competency in the use of Microsoft Office suite of products - Application instructions:
