We need someone who can download their skills: 1) role model, coach & teach the staff practical, daily rituals & ways of handling situations that make residential life flow smoother. e.g. how to decelerate before bedtime; a large "bag of tricks" working with groups of kids". 2) someone who is well versed in child development & can nurture a child' talents. 3) Coach immediate response to situations & help staff develop a plan that addresses the long term implications of a child's behavior (treatment planning) Many of these kids have experienced loss of family to AIDS, a few to murder; and many have been physically or sexually abused. We are scrambling to create safety & structure for them. - Applicant Requirements:
Seasoned & skilled with groups of kids, child behavior & development matters more than your credential: parents, teachers, residential treatment workers, grandparents, youth workers, social workers, counselors, psychologists, day care workers, seasoned camp counselors & directors. This is a volunteer position in Central America. Ability to speak Spanish is helpful but not essential. Most important is your ability to "download" your skills & consult regarding above challenges.
