- Assistance for refugee women graduates
-
The International Federation of University Women is offering limited financial assistance for women refugees who have mostly or fully completed their university degrees, and who need further training in language or professional practices in order to find employment in their new country. Small grants are designed to help some already qualified women get established faster in their new environment, so that they can then support their families and get involved to encourage their less fortunate 'sisters'. This assistance is open to refugee graduate women anywhere in the world. The grants are usually around $US1000 and are intended as short-term help for a woman to get a few necessary courses or certification so that she can work as a professional. The women must have valid refugee status in their new country; and are not available to those who are waiting to be processed or to be sent back to their country of origin. They must have permission to study (and eventually, to work) in their new country of residence, and be legally recognised.

- IDRC Training and Awards Program
-
The mandate of the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) is to support research that meets the priorities of developing countries. Therefore, most of IDRC's training funds and awards are granted to individuals doing research directly related to, and in, the context of IDRC's programs and projects. The Centre Training and Awards Program (CTAP) embodies IDRC's commitment to the personal and professional development of Canadians, permanent residents of Canada and developing-country nationals. By supporting academic study and offering opportunities for hands-on experience, IDRC is helping countries of the South to provide themselves with a critical mass of trained and experienced researchers to promote sustainable and equitable development in their regions. At the same time, we are giving a new generation of Canadians an opportunity to participate actively in international development issues and to consider careers in this field. CTAP is the focal point of training within IDRC and combines policy, management, and service functions for IDRC-funded training awards. IDRC funds and administers a number of award programs in the field of international development.

- Indigo Foundation Development Praxis Award 2004
-
Each year Indigo Foundation (IF) offers one Development Praxis Award to support and promote links between development research and practice. The award of $500 is granted to a person or organisation undertaking research that IF believes will contribute, in a practical and accessible way, to community development. IF also provides non-financial support to award recipients, including access to our organisational experience and contacts and, as appropriate, introductions to communities that we are working with. In return, we may ask recipients to assist IF by reviewing a project to ensure that we are applying key theoretical principles in our work, submitting short research articles to our newsletter or speaking to IF volunteers and the management committee about development research. Research should be in an area relevant to our priority areas of health, education and agriculture and/ or our guiding principles of community ownership, sustainability, transparency and gender equity. Equally, we are interested in research into development strategy, in particular research relevant to IF's strategy of supporting community-based and managed non-government groups and organisations to plan, undertake and evaluate their own community development activities. Further information on IF and the award is available from our website.
