This Inter-American Development Bank article argues that 'Macroeconomic stability, democracy and private sector participation are all part of the development process of Latin America and the Caribbean, but a broader issue analyzed recently by governmental authorities, economists and researchers is decentralization.'

Economic Intergration, Growth, and Poverty: Integration and Trade Policy Issues Paper

This paper argues poverty reduction, economic growth and economic integration are, indeed, related phenomena. This paper reviews the theoretical mechanisms through which trade boosts growth, reduces poverty, and increases the incomes of the disadvantaged and the empirical evidence that supports these claims. The final case highlights some specific considerations for the case of Columbia (Inter-American Development Bank, July 2007).

IDB President Admits Serious Problems in Spill-Prone Amazon Pipeline

The Inter-American Development Bank has finally acknowledged the multiple problems with the Camisea gas project, a flagship bank project that has caused devastating social and environmental impacts in Peru, including five spills in the first 18 months of operation. (Amazon Watch, Aprl 2006)

Justice for Latin America on IDB Debts: The Case for Cancelling Inter-American Development Bank Debt NOW! [386 KB]

This Eurodad paper states that the G8 intiative of debt relief is being implemented inequitably. While some countries are are having up to 90% of debt cancelled, four Latin American countries are only receiving, on average 30% debt cancellation.
The report argues that further relief is needed for Bolivia, Guyana, Hondurus and Nicaragua who are scheduled to reimburse the IDB of approximately US$2.75bn in the next ten years.
The paper calls for immediate cancellation of these debts.
