- Stern Review on the Economics of Climate Change
-
This is the most comprehensive review ever carried out on the economics of climate change. The first half of the Review focuses on the impacts and risks arising from uncontrolled climate change, and on the costs and opportunities associated with action to tackle it. The Review finds that all countries will be affected by climate change, but it is the poorest countries that will suffer earliest and most. Unabated climate change risks raising average temperatures by over 5°C from pre-industrial levels. Such changes would transform the physical geography of our planet, as well as the human geography - how and where we live our lives. Tackling climate change is the pro-growth strategy; ignoring it will ultimately undermine economic growth. The second half of the Review examines the national and international policy challenges of moving to a low-carbon global economy. (Sir Nicholas Stern, HM Treasury, 30 October 2006)

- Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)
-
Recognizing the problem of potential global climate change, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) established the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in 1988. It is open to all members of the UNEP and WMO. The role of the IPCC is to assess the scientific, technical and socio-economic information relevant for the understanding of the risk of human-induced climate change. It does not carry out research nor does it monitor climate related data or other relevant parameters. It bases its assessment mainly on peer reviewed and published scientific/technical literature.
