International Development Research Centre (IDRC)

IDRC is a Canadian public corporation that works in close collaboration with researchers from the developing world in their search for the means to build healthier, more equitable, and more prosperous societies. IDRC's mandate, as stated in the International Development Research Centre Act, is: To initiate, encourage, support, and conduct research into the problems of the developing regions of the world and into the means for applying and adapting scientific, technical, and other knowledge to the economic and social advancement of those regions. In doing so, the Centre helps developing countries use science and knowledge to find practical, long-term solutions to the social, economic, and environmental problems they face.

International Foundation for Science

IFS is an NGO providing support to developing country scientists to conduct, in a developing country, relevant and high quality research on the management, use, and conservation of biological resources and their environment. IFS believes that the interests of both science and development are best served by promoting and nurturing the research efforts of young science graduates, who are at the beginning of their research careers. Since 1974, IFS has provided support, mainly in the form of small research grants, to over 3,200 scientists in 99 developing countries.

International Institute of Rural Reconstruction (IIRR)

IIRR is an international NGO engaged in rural development throughout Asia, Africa and Latin America. IIRR produces publications on a variety of development themes, aimed at sharing of experiences among development practitioners. Most of the publications are produced through a participatory workshop called a "writeshop". In an IIRR "writeshop", experts and community members work together to write a manual documenting good practices on a particular development issue.

One World Volunteer Institute

One World Volunteer Institue offers programs that provide a unique possibility to learn about living conditions, traditions and culture in distant regions as well as about ourselves and our own role as responsible world citizens. The programs are Development Instructor programs. That means that you as a participant in one of the programs get to travel to a developing country and work there for six months as a volunteer in a community-based development project.
