Habitat for Humanity New Zealand

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit, non-denominational Christian housing organisation. Its aim is to eliminate poverty housing from the world and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience. Since 1976 Habitat has built more than 175,000 houses in 100 countries with a new house being completed every 26 minutes. By the end of 2005 Habitat for Humanity will have housed 1 million people. Habitat houses are purchased by the homeowner families. Three factors make Habitat houses affordable to low income people worldwide. 1. Houses are sold at no-profit with no interest charged on the loans. 2. Homeowners and volunteers work together to build the houses under trained supervision. 3. Individuals, companies, Churches, Service Clubs and others provide financial support.

Open Home Foundation New Zealand

The Open Home Foundation New Zealand began in New Zealand in 1977. It had a vision of the Christian community opening their homes to care for children and young people in need. The vision subsequently developed to include provision of a range of social work, foster care, counselling, parent education and youth services to children and families where there are issues of care and protection. The work began Wellington and today operates out of most of the main regional centres in New Zealand. In 1991 the Open Home Foundation New Zealand was invited to begin a ministry in India. This led to the development of the Open Home Foundation International, an organisation which is separate from, but linked to the Open Home Foundation New Zealand. The Open Home Foundation International currently works in partnership with people and organisations in India, Romania, Uganda and other countries. Its role is to strengthen and empower families so that their children are safe and loved within committed, nurturing relationships.

Philippines Solidarity Network Aotearoa (PSNA)

The Philippines Solidarity Network of Aotearoa (PSNA) has been in existence since the early 1980s, and is based in Christchurch. PSNA undertakes a number of solidarity tasks - we have existing or developing links with a wide range of Filipino people's organisations; we facilitate visits to the Philippines by New Zealanders; we have helped host a number of Filipino movement visitors here. We have held video evenings and helped organise progressive Filipino cultural events. We produce a regular newsletter, Kapatiran (Solidarity). It reports on topics such as human rights abuses; American military involvement in the Philippines; women; mining; the militant peasant movement's response to things such as genetic engineering field trials by transnationals; the never ending attempts to win back the billions stolen by the Marcos kleptocracy and to secure justice for the tens of thousands of their human rights victims; and the particular problems of the Muslim part of the Philippines, specifically Mindanao. We aim to make it as relevant as possible to New Zealanders - for example, the impact of globalisation and its institutions, such as APEC and the WTO, on both societies. Our two countries have more in common than is first apparent.

Environmental Defence Society

EDS is a New Zealand based environmental advocacy organisation. It is a New Zealand Incorporated Society operating primarily as a network of professional people who are prepared to assist the Society undertake its work on a voluntary basis, together with a community of people who support the Society financially through their membership. The Society identifies the issues it wishes to pursue. These need to be of at least national scope in their impact, or in their potential to set either precedents or policy. Our main areas for action are: * Landscape Protection * Biodiversity * Climate Change The Society pursues its aims through proactive policy development, advocacy and through involvement in selected planning cases. It sees itself as a 'process guardian' - ensuring that environmental decisions are made properly. Its area of action is primarily New Zealand but it is prepared to act in South Pacific nations on like matters, with local partners. In the planning area we look for opportunities to take and support cases which have the potential to establish precedents in sustainable environmental management. Establishing environmental case law is a route we are prepared to use, where that is the most effective route. However we will usually seek favourable outcomes to planning cases prior to them going to court. EDS much prefers to get involved in cases at the hearing stage rather than at appeal.

Campaign Against Foreign Control of Aotearoa (CAFCA)

CAFCA promotes the concept of an independent Aotearoa based on policies of economic, military and political self-reliance, using Aotearoa's resources for the benefit of the people of Aotearoa, and refusing involvement in the self-serving military and economic treaties of big foreign countries. We oppose foreign control, irrespective of which country it involves. We oppose the exploitation of Aotearoa's people and resources by foreign companies, and any foreign military or intelligence activities in Aotearoa. CAFCA does not support the replacement of foreign exploiters with local ones. New Zealand big business interests are collaborating with foreign companies in the exploitation of its own country - its only loyalty is to improve profits. CAFCA IS NOT RACIST. We do not oppose the people of foreign countries, only the transnational corporations (TNC's) exploiting the people of New Zealand.
