Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific 2005

UNESCO, 2005. The 2005 survey details both economic and social trends in the region, noting the impact of both unexpected events like the tsunami disaster and bird flu and continuing challenges such as persistent high oil prices, a flat US dollar and an ageing population.

36th Pacific Island Forum Official Communique

The Thirty-Sixth Pacific Islands Forum was held in Papua New Guinea, from 25-27 October 2005 and was attended by Heads of State and Government of Australia, the Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, New Zealand, Niue, Papua New Guinea, Republic of the Marshall Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu and Vanuatu, and representatives of Palau and Tonga. New Caledonia, French Polynesia Timor-Leste and Tokelau also attended the formal session as observers. The Forum Retreat was held at the Madang Resort, Madang.

Apia Statement

In a landmark achievement for civil society, the 35th Pacific Forum Leaders' meeting in Samoa was presented with civil society's Apia Statement on the proposed Pacific Plan. The Apia Statement outlines Pacific civil society's vision on issues of governance, security, economic development and trade, self-determination and human rights.

Auckland Declaration

April 2004 Declaration of the Pacific Islands Forum Special Leaders' Retreat. The leaders adopted the Pacific Vision, and committed to developing a Pacific Plan to realise the vision.
