Act to end Discrimination Against Palestinian Arab Children in Israel's Schools

Palestinian Arab citizens of Israel make up nearly one-quarter of Israel's schoolchildren. Yet Palestinian Arab children receive an education that is inferior in nearly every respect when compared to Jewish children. Write to the Israeli Minister of Education. Contact key members of the Israeli Knesset.

BANGLADESH: Press freedom undermined

Sumi Khan, a 34-year-old journalist working with local and national magazines and based in the city of Chittagong, has been attacked and received death threats as a result of her investigative journalism for the past two years. She was stabbed in an attack in 2004, and her attackers remain at large. Cool Investing: Making Your Money Work for Change

Through the money you deposit in your bank accounts, trust funds, GICs or retirement funds, money is being invested in your name. You have the right (and some would argue, obligation) to ensure that that money you've entrusted to financial managers and institutions is being invested in ways you feel comfortable about (Pacific People's Partnership)

Four Development Organizations Raided

On April 5, 2007, in the middle of the night, three development organizations in Guatemala were raided. Assailants broke through two metal doors to gain access to the offices of TROCAIRE, an Irish development agency; ACSUR Las Segovias, a Spanish non-governmental organization; and Colectivo Poder y Desarrollo Local (CPDL), a Guatemalan development agency. These break-ins have crippled the capacity of these organizations to execute their projects and vital endeavors. These attacks seem to be intended to intimidate the four development organizations and to halt their programs to bring about a more just, democratic, and sustainable Guatemala. Their ability to perform this work is now greatly reduced. TAKE ACTION HERE! (Resource Centre of the Americas).

Google censorship: take action to defend freedom of information

Google is aiding the repression of freedom of information and expression in China. Early in 2006 Google launched a self-censoring Chinese search engine, google.cn. This version of Google (called "Gu Ge" in Chinese) affects Chinese users by restricting search results for topics such as "human rights", "political reform", "Tiananmen Square" and "Falun Gong", among others. Write to the Write to the Chairman and CEO of Google, Mr Schmidt, to tell him what you think about this.

Irrepressible.Info

Irrepressible Adj. 1) Impossible to repress or control. Chat rooms monitored. Blogs deleted. Websites blocked. Search engines restricted. People imprisoned for simply posting and sharing information. The Internet is a new frontier in the struggle for human rights. Governments - with the help of some of the biggest IT companies in the world - are cracking down on freedom of expression. Amnesty International, with the support of The Observer, is launching a campaign to show that online or offline the human voice and human rights are impossible to repress.

Sign the Petition -- Don't Let Congress Ruin the Internet

Right now Congress is pushing a law that would abandon the First Amendment of the Internet -- a principle called "network neutrality" that preserves the free and open Internet. Congress needs to hear from you today or they will hand over control of what you do online to companies like AT&T, Verizon and Comcast.

Stop the Export of U.S.-Funded Abstinence-Only HIV/AIDS Programs

'Abstinence-only' programs teach that abstaining from sex until marriage is the only effective way to prevent contracting HIV through sex. They deny young people critical information about condoms and other safer sex strategies, and promote marriage as a safeguard against HIV infection. These programs do not work, they violate kids' right to complete information about HIV/AIDS and leave young people at risk of contracting HIV in marriage, particularly women and girls. But the U.S. government is exporting them all over the world as part of President Bush's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. Support Ugandan AIDS activists by adding your name to a sign-on letter to their Ministry of Health. Write to President Bush and Ambassador Randall Tobias

Urge Microsoft not to assist human rights abuses

Internet companies have an invaluable role to play in the realization of freedom of expression and information. But in China and elsewhere, Microsoft is instead aiding repression, censorship, and violation of fundamental freedoms. Write to Bill Gates to tell him what you think about this.
