- Take action against climate change
-
Climate change is happening now, but we can start making a difference today. The actions every one of us takes can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the effects of climate change. We can all help protect our environment by making changes, big and small, in the way we lead our lives. Visit the Ministry for the Environment's website to find out ways you can take action in the home, workplace, on the land and in the community. (Ministry for the Environment).

- Take Action: Design a Deep Sea Creature!
-
High seas bottom trawling has been described as one of the most destructive fishing practices in the deep oceans. Governments from around the world and the United Nations have consistently called for urgent action to be taken. Yet every year it continues. Here's what you can do to help stop it. Design a Deep Sea Creature for our gallery to show your support for a United Nations moratorium to halt bottom trawling in international waters. Then ask your friends to spread the word by sending your creature or our ready-made e-card to them.

- TAKE ACTION: Tell Panasonic, Sharp and Philips to take responsibility for their toxic TVs
-
Please tell the CEOs of major electronics firms to take responsibility for the TVs they make, and the waste that goes with them. While some companies, like Sony, are doing the right thing by implementing responsible recycling programs for their old TVs, most companies are ignoring the problem.

- Tell Target to help protect communities and the environment by endorsing responsibly sourced gold.
-
This campaign seeks to ensure his victory has helped advance a dialog with jewelry and mining companies on the need to uphold social, environmental and human rights standards at gold mines around the world. Because jewelry accounts for 80 percent of gold use, we need large retailers like Target to get on board. Please help keep up the momentum -- tell Target to join the efforts.

- Tell the Cell Phone Industry Its Recycling Effort is 'Incomplete'
-
In September, the wireless industry meets in Los Angeles to promote new wireless technologies. Unfortunately, the major wireless providers still have not taken adequate efforts to recycle their old technology. Please take action! Send a letter to the CTIA - (the wireless trade association) telling them that they need to make a stronger commitment to cell phone recycling.

- Tell the World Gold Council: Don't Endorse Mine Waste Dumping in Lakes
-
Idaho-based Coeur d'Alene Mines Corp. is building the Kensington gold mine in southeast Alaska. Kensington will generate millions of tons of mine waste. The company wants to dump that waste into a pristine mountain lake -- killing all the fish it contains. There is an alternative, but the company is choosing lake dumping because it's cheaper. A clearer example of irresponsible mining practice is hard to find. Tell the WGC the best way to ensure gold doesn't lose its luster is to require its member companies follow social and environmental standards that protect communities and the environment.

- Time running out to save bluefin tuna in the Mediterranean
-
Fuelled by high global demand for sushi and the unsustainable expansion in tuna farming, the fishery sees huge illegal and unregulated activity - especially by EU fleets. Catches by traditional fishermen are down by some 80% on what they used to be, and six tuna farms have now closed due to lack of fish. A strict recovery plan must be adopted by ICCAT in Croatia this November - before it is too late. Sign the e-petition.

- Toxins in your TV, poisons in your PC?
-
Many popular brands of electronic products contain toxic chemicals. Small amounts of these chemicals cause widespread pollution. Fill in the make of your electronic product here and send a form letter to its manufacturer. Tick one or more boxes and optionally add the model so the company knows it is getting messages from its own consumers. Your pressure will help push these companies to follow the good example of companies like Samsung, Nokia, Sony, and Philips who have promised to remove toxic chemicals from their products in the future.

- Urgent action for deep sea life
-
The deep-sea is woefully inadequately protected from destructive fishing practices such as bottom trawling. The only clear action for countries left to take now is support a global moratorium on high seas bottom trawling at the United Nations General Assembly in October. You can help protect the oceans by sending a message to the ministers of Canada, Finland, France, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Spain and the USA.

- Write a Letter Urging the G-8 to Make the Connections Between Debt and Oil!
-
When the G-8 met in Scotland last year, global poverty and climate change headlined the agenda. This weekend in Russia, energy security tops the list, and last year's priorities seem forgotten. It appears the G-8 is defining energy security as promotion and expansion of oil production worldwide. This type of energy security will only: * Further increase oil dependence * Exacerbate climate change * And drive countries deeper into debt. Wherever you are, you can take action by writing a letter to your local paper, using the model letters on this website as a guide.
