- Urgent Action - Support MOSOP!
-
We call on you with an urgent request to support the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP), in Nigeria, a fellow Member of ESCR-Net. In the past week, armed gunmen invaded the home of Bariara Kpalap, the Information Officer of MOSOP, and there have been threats against the lives of Ledum Mitee, President of MOSOP, and Legborsi Pyagbara, International Advocacy Officer. Based on the assessment of MOSOP, these incidents seem to be part of a larger campaign to silence the voice of MOSOP, as a key representative of the Ogoni people.(ESCR).

- Write a letter about human rights to Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao
-
Hosting the Olympic Games in 2008 is an excellent opportunity for the People's Republic of China to demonstrate its commitment to international standards on human rights. Call for the immediate release of all individuals jailed for seeking to exercise their rights to freedom of expression, association and assembly. Call for the right for Chinese citizens to speak openly and honestly without fear of censorship, detention or imprisonment.

- Write letters to Sudanese MPs: Protect Darfur
-
In May 2006, the Sudanese Government and one rebel faction signed a Peace Agreement. But violence has actually increased; in the past four months alone over 80,000 more people in Darfur have been displaced, sometimes for the second or third time. The people of Darfur are asking for safety in the camps, security to allow them to return home and the disarmament of the Janjawid. An effective peacekeeping force which protects civilians can start to provide this safety. As the next session of the National Assembly begins we are singling out the Parliamentary Committees for Peace and Reconciliation and for Human Rights and asking them, with an international voice, to use their positions as decision makers to make a change.
