Dev-Zone Library - Search Tips

You can search the catalogue for items by using an index or keyword. You can limit your search by asking the system to search only for what's in the fields below:

Keywords

Searches for the word you supply anywhere in the catalogue record.

Title

Searches for the word(s) you supply anywhere in the title.

Author

Use this search when you want to find an author or organisation.

Subject

This index allows you to search a range of subjects. Click the arrow on the right and select your subject from the drop down list. NB These subjects relate to the book location and do not give an exhaustive list of resources on the subject.

Type

Allows you to search a range of formats e.g. Books, DVDs. Click the arrow on the right and select your subject from the drop down list.

Year

Click the arrow on the right and select the year of publication from the drop down list.

 

You search each field separately OR

 

You can combine information you have added or selected for several or all the fields

 

You can also use these operators to refine your search even further

 

These search modifiers can be used in the keyword, title and author fields:

 

* is wildcard
" " for phrase search
+ for required
- for not
> more important
< less important

 

You can sort your search results by title (alphabetical), author (alphabetical) or date (descending date order). Click once on "Title" etc in the bar at the top of your search results.

How to find a recent DVD about Human rights

  • Enter "Human rights" in the Keywords box
  • Select "DVD" from the Type box by clicking on the right hand arrow
  • Select 2005 from the Date box by clicking the right hand arrow
  • Click the Search button and your results will be displayed
