HELP for
Using the Pacific Development Directory
Search and Advanced Search Options
The search facility offers two levels of search complexity. For most
searching the Simple Search
interface will be suitable. The Advanced
Search interface is suitable for complex queries.
Search offers searching by
-
Name, Acronym,
-
Type of Organisation,
- Country of Physical Location.
|
Advanced Search options offer complex searches by:
-
Name, Acronym,
-
Type of Organisation,
-
Country of Physical Location,
-
Organisational Activities,
-
National Areas of Operation,
-
Target Groups,
-
Funding sources,
-
Affiliations/Networks.

To use the Search Functions select the options you require then press the
"Search!" button.
In the name search you have the option to do an "As Keywords"
search or an "As Phrase" search.
- If you select the As Keyword search then each word that you enter in the
Name/Acronym field will be treated as a separate search item.
- If you select an As Phrase search then your search terms will be treated
as a phrase.
For example, try a search for "development
resource".
- As a Keywords search this will return at least 88 results because the
search matches any organisation name or acronym that contains one of the
keywords somewhere in the name or acronym.
- As a Phrase search this will return only 1 result - "Development
Resource Centre Dev-Zone" - because it treats the search string as a
phrase and not as separate words.
If you use the "Exact Match" option on an "As Keywords"
search then for example, a search for "women" will include
organisations with the word "women" in the name, but exclude
organisations names that use the word "women's".
Wildcard Characters
You may use the * wildcard in search terms. A wildcard is a character that
substitutes for other characters. For example one might search using
"cent*" in order to find all names that use the words
"centre" or "center" or "central" etc.
Note: when using the Advanced
Search interface you may select more than one item at in each list box by
holding down the Control Key while you click additional items. The search
results will include listing that match any of the selected items in each
field.
An Email Query Interface
provides searching via email. Send an email to pddsearch@dev-zone.org
and you will receive instructions by return mail on how to search the
Directory via email.
You can perform either a simple or an advanced search, depending
on how specific you want to be. If you get too many returns, try the advanced
search. The search form will have more detailed instructions to help you get
the most out of the directory.
Add Your Organisation If you want
your organisation to appear in the Directory you can fill out the form
after clicking on the words Add
Organisation.
- These details will be added
to the Internet database in a few days and will be included in the next edition
of the hard copy.
- We will email you a user name (unless specified
below), and password once you have submitted this form. You can use this to
login and edit your organisations details.
- In order to have a consistent amount
of information for each organisation on the Directory we ask you to at least
fill in the "required" fields that are marked with a red *. If you
put as much information as possible your organistion will become better known to users of the
Directory.
Edit Your Organisation Click on
